Falcons' Moore named NFC defensive player of week
FLOWERY BRANCH -- Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his two interception performance in Atlanta’s 23-13 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 13.
Moore posted one of the best games of his career, notching a game-high 13 tackles (10 solo) with two interceptions, and two tackles for loss. The Falcons defense intercepted Saints’ QB Drew Brees five times and held him without a touchdown pass for the first time in 54 games to snap his NFL record streak. Thursday’s game marked the fifth time this season the Falcons have recorded multiple picks in a game and it was the first time since 11/9/1980 that the Falcons intercepted five passes. Moore’s second interception of the game came on the Saints final drive sealing the win for Atlanta and putting the Falcons in position to clinch their second NFC South title under Head Coach Mike Smith.
According to coaches’ breakdown, Moore has tallied a team-high 105 tackles (74 solo) with eight passes defensed, four tackles for loss, four interceptions and one sack. His four interceptions are the second most he’s had in a season and rank tied for fourth among all safeties this season. This is the first Player of the Week award of Moore’s career. He is the first Falcon to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors since CB Brent Grimes in Week 15 of the 2010 season.
