MT. AIRY – The driver of a Ford Focus was seriously injured when that vehicle went out of control and overturned, striking a utility pole and telephone service box on Georgia Highway 17 (Toccoa Highway) near Clarkesville shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The wreck happened near Glade Creek Baptist Church and was witnessed by a trooper from the Georgia State Patrol. A medical helicopter was requested to transport the driver of that vehicle, but because the closest air ambulance was already committed on another Habersham County wreck and a second aircraft was 50 minutes away, the victim was rushed by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Georgia Highway 17 was shut down for a time following the wreck. Further details of the wreck were not immediately available. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
