GAINESVILLE - Lakeview Academy boys basketball coach Seth Vining, according to a press release from the school, has informed his players that this will be his last year coaching the Lions.

Vining has been at Lakeview for nine seasons during which he had two 1,000-point scorers and earned wins No. 600 and 700. During his 38-year coaching career, Vining has won 15 Lanierland championships, 11 region championships and has taken 25 teams to the state tournament. Ten times his teams have reached the final four, three times finishing as state runner-up and four times have won the state championship. While coaching at Lakeview, Vining was the Region 8-A Co-Coach of the Year in 2005, was inducted into the Northeast Georgia Hall of Fame in 2006, was the GACA Region Coach of the Year in 2008 and the Region 8-A Coach of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2012. His coaching record is 729 – 291.

According to the press release, "Vining not only brought excellence and accountability to his players but was an integral part of all of Lakeview activities. It was not unusual for Vining to be spotted at the Lakeview Academy Fine Arts competitions and productions throughout the school year. He has been a leader in the Lakeview community and Hall County. His camps and foundation have helped to secure many summer camp opportunities for Hall County's youth, regardless of their ability to pay."

Vining’s said his plans post-coaching including being a better husband, dad, granddad and CASA volunteer.

Vining has been married to Cathy Fincher Vining for 39 years.
