Erwin named Georgia Superintendent of the Year 2013
Banks County Superintendent of Schools Chris Erwin was named Georgia Superintendent of the Year on Friday.
ATLANTA – Banks County Superintendent of Schools Chris Erwin was named 2013 Superintendent of the Year at the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) annual conference in Atlanta Friday.
Erwin was selected from four finalists from around the state, including Hall County Superintendent Will Schofield.
Erwin is in his tenth year as superintendent in Banks County and, according to the school system website, has led the system to multiple consecutive years of meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
Erwin will represent the state in the national Superintendent of the Year program, with the winner to be announced in February at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education.
Also on Friday, Dean Dyer, WRWH Radio in Cleveland, was awarded a Beacon Award at the conference.
Beacon Awards recognize print and electronic media representatives and organizations whose coverage over time has created understanding of public education issues by informing the public about programs, policies and/or issues affecting the public schools, students, and/or communities.
Dyer was among four electronic media and five print media representatives who were recognized Friday. He was nominated for the award by the White County Board of Education.
