160-acre prescribed burn set today in Elbert CountyBy Rob Moore Editor ELBERTON – People in Elbert, Franklin and Hart counties may see some smoke throughout the day Thursday.
The Georgia Forestry Commission will be conducting a 160-acre prescribed burn between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the end of Pleasant Hill Road off Georgia Highway 17 north of Elberton, said GFC Public Relations Director Wendy Burnett. The burn area is located two to three miles north of Elberton and is bounded by bladed fire breaks to keep it contained. Wind direction is predicted to be south at 5 to 8 mph, and those in Dewy Rose, Bowman and Elberton may see the prescribed burn that is being burned for forest regeneration, while smoke may be observed in the adjacent counties. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
