ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA -– A poor shooting effort that saw the North Georgia women’s basketball team shooting around 15 percent from the field at one point hindered the Lady Saints from the get-go Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Saints (1-3) suffered through a 73-45 drubbing from Eckerd College (3-1) to close out their time in the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic.

The Tritons did not do anything spectacular on the court – aside from every player scoring at least three points. Eckerd shot 46.4% (26-56) from the field and hit eight three-pointers, but the Saints’ poor shooting effort of 22.8% (13-57) was the deciding factor. Eckerd was also 44.4% (8-18) from three-point range while North Georgia was just 3-21 (14.3%).

Liga Vente had a solid night for Eckerd as she led all scorers with 18 points off a 7-13 shooting performance. She also added six rebounds as Annie Armstrong chipped in 12 points of her own.

Former Chestatee and Gainesville High standout Jaymee Carnes was the only player to finish with double-digit points as she finished the contest with 15 points, but the junior hit just four of her 19 attempts from the field. She was able to go 7-10 from the charity stripe.

The Saints did start the game with a 6-2 run, but Eckerd responded with an 8-2 run of their own to take the lead and then cruised on from there. The score was 40-21 at half time but the Saints were never able to contest in the second half.

North Georgia will next play in the Clayton State Classic in Morrow, Ga. to start the month of December. The Lady Saints will start things off with Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday, Dec. 1 before taking on Chowan University the following day.
