Tim "T" Moon, center, poses with his latest trophy in Las Vegas
Only a day after setting a Master's Division bench press World Record Friday at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters World Championships at Bally's in Las Vegas, Gainesville's Tim "T" Moon accomplished an unprecedented feat, as he claimed his second world title and set another world record in winning the Equipped Open Championship on Saturday.

"Yahoo -- 723 pounds, that's a world record for even the young bucks, praise God!" Moon exclaimed.

After winning the Master's 47-53 year old 275-pound Equipped Division on Friday, the 48-year-old, 273-pound Moon upped the ante on Saturday, setting a Georgia state record of 673 pounds with his first lift before finishing with the World Mark of 723.1, a meet personal record.

"This is probably the best meet I've ever been to," Moon said noting that there were 681 lifters competing. "There's competition in all the weight classes. It's a very exciting meet. It was a relief to get my opener (Friday) especially since I've been struggling with my shoulder (injury) since my mission trip to Bolivia."

Moon is a member of the Georgia IronDawgs, a local powerlifting team headquartered in Gainesville, and a 1982 graduate of Jefferson High.

It was also a good day for Moon's IronDawg teammate Joey Murphy of Mt. Airy.

Murphy set the Georgia State record in his Master's 40-46 year-old, equipped, 259-pound class with a press of 664.5 pounds. That was good enough for the Master's title and second in the Open division.

A number of the other IronDawgs, including Garry Glenn, will be representing Team USA in the Global Powerlifting Alliance Raw World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships in Villa Maria, Argentina Nov. 29 through Dec. 2nd.
