GAINESVILLE - Wreaths Across America comes to Gainesville next month to honor veterans buried at Alta Vista Cemetery.

Sponsored by the General James Longstreet Chapter 46 United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) the ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, December 15.

Chapter spokeswoman Gail Mangum says seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices, and "teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms."

Specially designated wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 400 participating locations all across the country.

Alta Vista Cemetery is the final resting place of some 2,000 veterans.

Mangum says if you would like to sponsor a wreath, or would like more information about plans for the ceremony, you can contact her at (770) 312-4305/egmangumga@gmail.com . For more information about Wreaths Across America, visit www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org .
