Dragons advance in Class AA playoffs, 42-8

Jefferson quarterback Bryant Shirreffs led the Dragons to their first playoff win since 2009 Friday night in a 42-8 victory over Kendrick.
JEFFERSON -– Jefferson advanced to the second round of the state playoffs for the first time since 2009 after whipping Kendrick 42-8 Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Class AA action.
The Dragons (10-1) relied on their defense against Kendrick holding the Cherokees (5-6) to just 128 total yards, zero passing, and forced three fumbles.
Jefferson senior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs out-gained the Cherokees by himself passing for 83 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another 81 yards to lead the Dragons offense.
Tristen Jackson had 33 yards rushing and two touchdowns and 20 yards receiving and one touchdown catch for the Dragons. Sammy Williams had nine rushes for 55 yards and one touchdown for the Dragons.
Jefferson, which has won 10 straight, next will play Westminster, which shut out Pepperell 34-0, in the second round. The Dragons can tie the school’s all-time win streak (11) with a win over Westminster next week.
