GAINESVILLE – The Georgia Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin paving on Lanier Islands Parkway/SR 347 on Friday.
DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said in a press release that paving will continue into next week on both the weekend and during week days.
Weekday work hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and weekend work will occur daylight to dark if weather permits. Minor delays are expected at commercial driveways and intersections along the project. Once paving is completed, traffic will be shifted to use the new lanes while the existing lanes are reworked.
The 1.7 mile long widening of SR 347/Lanier Islands Parkway from I-985 to McEver Road is under contract to C.W. Matthews Contracting, Inc of Marietta for $11.6 million.
The project is set for completion in November 2014.
