ATLANTA (AP) Three Republican congressmen from Georgia will serve another two-year term after running unopposed for re-election.

Reps. Paul Broun of Athens, Lynn Westmoreland of Sharpsburg and Austin Scott of Tifton each got a free pass in Tuesday's election because they had no Democratic challengers.

Recent comments by Broun that evolution, the Big Bang theory and embryology are "lies straight from the pit of hell" prompted critics in his 10th District to encourage write-in votes for Charles Darwin, the father of the theory of evolution. But those votes were merely symbolic. Election officials did not plan to count them.

Broun and Westmoreland of the 3rd District both defeated Republican primary challengers.

Scott is finishing his first term but still earned a free ride to re-election in middle Georgia's 8th District.
