DAHLONEGA -– The North Georgia women’s soccer team will be feeling a sense of déjà vu this week.

The Saints have played strong all season in hopes of making their second appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament and it has paid off as they will begin the Southeast Regional as the No. 5 seed this week with a familiar opponent – No. 4 seeded Wingate University.

The rematch from last year’s NCAA first round will be contested on Friday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of national-No. 1 and top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University. The winner of Friday’s contest will take on the Pirates on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Saints enter Friday’s match with a record of 14-4-2 for the season having won four of their last five games. They have gone 6-2-2 through their last 10 games having out-scored their opposition 70-22 this season for an average of 3.5 goals per game.

Out of conference this season, the Saints went 7-0 including a win over South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman College. North Georgia also went 3-0 against Conference Carolina foes and out-scored their out of conference opposition 30-4.

The Bulldogs of Wingate are currently 14-2-2 overall after falling 2-0 to 11th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne this past Sunday in the SAC championship game. They have out-scored their opponents 50-20, averaging 2.8 goals per contest.

The top-seeded Pirates of Armstrong (18-1-1) have a bye in the first round before taking on the winner of the North Georgia – Wingate game as does No. 2 Columbus State University (17-3-1). The Cougars will host No. 3 seed Lenoir-Rhyne University (16-1-2) and No. 6 seed Belmont Abbey College (11-9-1) on Friday and will face the winner of the that game on Sunday.

Last season, the fourth-seeded Saints defeated the fifth-seeded Bulldogs 3-1 in Savannah for their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. The win marked the 16th win of the 2011 season, setting a program record for most wins in a season.
