Buford rolls past East Hall
By staff reports
RABBITTOWN – Buford tuned up for its season-ending showdown with North Hall with a 49-6 win over East Hall Friday night in Region 7-AAA action at East Hall Stadium.
The Class AAA third-ranked Wolves (6-3, 4-2 in region) led 42-0 through the first three quarters primarily behind its rushing attack, which piled up 322 yards for the game. Thomas Wilson led the ground game with 97 yards on just two carries, including a 77-yard TD run midway through the second quarter.
Quinn Davis had 52 yards with two touchdowns and Zavoir Hoxie had 55 yards on 11 attempts and one touchdown for Buford. Quarterback Monty VanGorder had 136 yards and one touchdown on 6-of-8 passing for Buford. Taylor Mitchell also threw one TD pass for the Wolves.
The Wolves held East Hall to just 158 total yards of offense, 128 rushing. The Vikings’ (4-5, 2-4) only score was on a 12-yard run by Quay Jerrels midway through the fourth quarter.
East Hall will finish its regular season on the road at Fannin County with a slim playoff possibility. The Vikings are tied with Banks County and West Hall and a win over the Rebels coupled with a West Hall win over Dawson County next week would put all three teams in a tie for the final playoff spot.
Dawson County beat East Hall in the season-opener but the Vikings knocked off West Hall two weeks ago in overtime.
