GAINESVILLE - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County drew on the words of a former Atlanta Falcons kicker in its annual Future for Kids Gala.

Thursday evening's event featured Morten Anderson, the all-time leading scorer in the NFL as its keynote speaker.

"He has a heart for giving back to the community and especially to youth and is a strong role model," Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County Chief Professional Officer Steve Mickens said prior to the event.

In addition to Anderson's appearance at the tenth year for the event, the organization lauded a long time supporter with its Helping Hands Award. Alex Laidlaw was given the honor, an annual award for an individual or group that has through service, dedication and commitment, improved the lives of children.

Organizers said over the years, the gala has raised critical funds to support Club programs which enrich and enhance children's lives.

Thursday's festivities were held at the Gainesville Civic Center.
