WINDER - Authorities say donations are being accepted to help a northeast Georgia family after a toddler was critically injured by a falling tree branch at his daycare center in the northeast Georgia town of Winder.

Winder Fire Chief Matt Whiting said 2-year-old Tripp Halstead was on the playground of the center when the tree limb crashed onto a fence and then struck the boy Monday. Whiting says the limb was 12 to 14 feet long and likely weighed several hundred pounds.

People wishing to donate may contribute to the Tripp H. Halstead Fund at PNC Bank.

Family members say the child suffered an extremely serious head injury and remained in critical condition Wednesday.
