Will Brock
From the moment he was inserted as starting quarterback, the White County football coaching staff had high hopes for Will Brock.

The senior has hardly disappointed.

After taking over the job in 2011, Brock has excelled in 2012, guiding a potent Warriors option attack and helping lead White County back into playoff contention in coach Bill Ballard’s second season in charge.

The imposing Brock is perfectly suited to the Warriors’ triple option attack, either utilizing his size to slash through defenses for gains on the ground ( for the season, he has 507 yards rushing and 10 TDs) or throwing the ball over the top to a dangerous receiving corps (Brock also has 908 yards passing and 10 TDs).

For example look no further than last week’s 47-42 defeat of Dawson County, in which Brock torched the Dawson County defense for 436 yards and seven total touchdowns -- five passing.

The stunning display helped White County to take a big step forward in the state playoff race and earned Brock the Gainesville Jaycees Player of the Week award.

Access North Georgia.com sports editor Morgan Lee recently caught up with Brock to talk about the thrilling night, the Warriors' playoff hopes and the remainder of the 2012 campaign.

The Warriors (5-3, 3-2 Region 7-AAA) put themselves in prime position to claim at least the No. 3 postseason seed from Region 7-AAA, with their only losses so far coming against Buford and North Hall. Yet White County knows it must continue to raise its play as it heads toward state, and Brock -- who has rolled up 1,415 yards and 20 touchdowns over just seven games played -- will play a key role in that charge.

Having already fought through injury once this season, the quarterback has proven his toughness and will look to help the Warriors close strong -- as they continue to get healthier up and down the line-up.

The Warriors will play host to West Hall on Friday in Cleveland.

Each week this football season the Jaycees will team with Jacobs Media to present a Player of the Week award. At the end of the season, the Jaycees will also present a Player of the Year award, as well as name a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship to the most deserving senior.
