GAINESVILLE - The November monthly WomenSource Brown Bag Lunch will feature Steve Collins, with Adults Protecting Children; Julie Battle Ph.D.; and Hall County State Court Solicitor Stephanie Woodard who will present a program titled “Protecting Our Children: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative.”
It will be held Thursday at the Frances Meadows Aquatic & Community Center at 12:00 and will be catered by Brenau Catering.
Collins is the founder and president of Adults Protecting Children, Inc. Adults Protecting Children is committed to the training of adults in how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to the sexual abuse of children. He also works part-time as a regional coordinator for the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy.
Battle is a Clinical Psychologist and Chair of the Psychology Department at Brenau University and became a facilitator for the Stewards of Children program in the summer of 2012.
Woodard serves as a board member for the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children, which provides free services for children who have suffered abuse.
The Hall County Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative is a joint effort by many organizations who serve the Gainesville area by focusing either on the treatment of individuals who have been sexually abused or the prosecution of offenders.
The luncheon will also feature a documentary entitled “Childhood Stories,” which shows the human toll that child sexual abuse has and the life-long impact.
The Outreach Agency for November is Family Promise of Hall County, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless children and their families. Their mission is to help put an end to homelessness one family at a time. Lindsey McCamy, Director, will present information on how the organization is serving women and children in the community. Brown Bag Lunch attendees are asked to bring donations of household items (ex. laundry detergent, dish detergent, hand soap, feminine products, body wash, toothbrushes, towels and washcloths, paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, air freshener, cleaning products, etc.) to be given to Family Promise.
