GAINESVILLE – State Department of Transportation District Engineer Bayne Smith announces that Lisa Deaton is now the District Maintenance Contracts Engineer for the 21 counties in Northeast Georgia’s GDOT District One.

Deaton has worked with DOT since 1987. She started her career as a clerk and worked her way up in the Department. Deaton has worked in District Maintenance as Roadside Enhancement Coordinator and Assistant Asphalt Manager. She then served in the Administration Division as the Equal Employment Opportunity Representative for the District.

Moving to the Preconstruction Division of GDOT, she served as District Environmentalist to ensure GDOT meets or exceeds every Federal and State environmental statute. Her latest position as District Maintenance Contracts Engineer brings her back to the Maintenance Division. She will coordinate with contractors performing maintenance activities on the interstate and state route systems. Her new position was effective October 16.

“Lisa is an excellent employee," Smith said. "This position will build on her past experience doing procurement for the Maintenance Division. She is the best person for this position. She continues to be an asset to Georgia DOT and to the Citizens of Georgia.”

Deaton lived in Cleveland. She is a member of Nacoochee Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies include singing, playing music, reading, learning about new places and new things. When she’s not working, she shares her time with Hank Houston.
