GAINESVILLE - The coldest weather of the season is moving into north Georgia and is expected to send overnight temperatures to freezing or below in many places over the next few days - and freeze and high wind warnings were issued Sunday morning for one county.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the freeze and high wind warnings for Rabun County and several Tennessee and North Carolina counties along the the border with Georgia with an accumulation of snow expected in those Tennessee and North Carolina regions. The freeze warning is in effect from midnight Sunday until 9:00 Monday morning with lows of around 30 forecast for early Monday. The high wind warning notes the possibility of winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph from late Sunday night through Tuesday evening. That, the NWS says, is likely to result in numerous downed trees. (See link below for more information.)

Meanwhile, lows in the mid-20s are forecast for the Blairsville area and other parts of north Georgia Tuesday morning and are expected to remain below freezing through Thursday morning, with a low of 30 predicted for Wednesday, 29 on Thursday and 32 on Friday. Clarkesville is expected a reading of 31 on Tuesday and temperatures in the mid-30s the most of the rest of the week.

Gainesville is not expected to record any freezing temperatures this week but reading will be in the mid- to upper-30s each morning Tuesday through Thursday with a return to the 40s by the end of the week.

Daytimes across north Georgia this week will be in the 50s, with lower 50s in many places in the mountains.
