GAINESVILLE - Kay Holleman, Lakeview Academy’s college counselor, announced Monday that Austin Montgomery has been named a semifinalist in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Of the more than 1.5 million juniors who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), only 16,000 reached the semifinalist level. Montgomery will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

In addition, Marissa Baer, John Cox, Grant Hocker, Vidya Mani-Medepalli and Joris Trip have been named Commended Students. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students rank in the top five per cent of seniors in the country based on the October 2011 PSAT/NMSQT Test.
