BUFORD -- In a battle of dominating defense vs. high-flying offense, score a big one for the defense, as Buford clamped down on Dawson County in a 34-3 win on Friday in Buford.

The fourth-ranked Wolves (6-1, 4-0 Region 7-AAA) allowed just eight yards rushing from the Tigers (4-3, 2-2), while holding standout Dawson quarterback Tyler Dominy to 154 yards through the air on 18 of 42 passing. Buford also nabbed an interception in the win.

Buford's offense, meanwhile, rolled up 198 yards rushing behind 139 yards on 17 carries from Dontravious Wilson, who also scored a touchdown.

By the time Wilson broke free for a 12 yard score midway through the third quarter, Buford owned a 34-3 edge that held the rest of the way.

Thomas Wilson opened the scoring for the Wolves on a 65-yard punt return just 1:09 into the contest. Donte' Gordon also scored a rushing touchdown, while Montgomery VanGorder found Tre' Neal for a 32-yard scoring strike for a 21-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The second quarter proved a kicking battle, as Buford's Matthew Bonadies hit field goals from 37 and 31 yards, and Dawson County's Max Muldoon converted a 34-yard attempt.

The Wolves will play host to Fannin County next week, while Dawson County will look to bounce back against White County in a critical home game.
