GDOL, Habersham Employer Committee to co-host labor law seminarBy Staff ATLANTA – The Habersham Employer Committee and the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will co-host a seminar for employers on how to motivate employees and avoid unnecessary employment litigation.
The seminar, entitled One Call – That’s all: Avoiding Common Employment Liability, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 8:30-12:00 at the Cornelia Community House. Jonathan Martin of Macon, a partner with Constangy, Brooks and Smith law firm and the former chairman of the Georgia Employer Committee, will lead the seminar. It will focus on the basics of discrimination law, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the affect the amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will have on businesses. It is designed to help employers understand how to avoid costly employment litigation, including social media policies and practices. Also, it will focus on how employers can use positive employee relations to avoid employee lawsuits, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) investigations, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charges. The seminar is designed for business owners, human resource managers, supervisors, and entrepreneurs. The cost is $40 per person.
