ATLANTA -- The Lumpkin County girls softball team earned its first trip to Columbus and the Elite 8 in 10 years after sweeping Marist wednesday in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

The Lady Indians (22-12) beat Marist 4-3 and 3-2 in their best-of-three series and are a perfect 4-0 in the state playoffs so far.

Ashley Brown won both games in the circle and got help Whitney Brown, who hit a three-run home run in Game 2, and Morgan Wood, who had three RBI, from the offense.

Lumpkin County will open the Elite 8 round against Northwest Whitfield next Thursday in Columbus.
