CLEVELAND -- Buford football showed on Friday night that the Region 7-AAA title is still very much the Wolves' to lose, powering past White County 49-14 in Cleveland.
The fourth-ranked Wolves (5-1, 3-0 Region 7-AAA) responded to a second-quarter push from the Warriors with three straight touchdowns to put a stranglehold on the contest.
Buford flexed its muscles in the ground game, piling up 357 yards rushing while holding White County (4-2, 2-1) to 126 yards.
Dontravious Wilson led 12 different Wolves ball carriers with 131 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Zavior Hoxie also rushed for 64 yards in the win.
Will Brock led White County with 96 yards rushing and a touchdown. The quarterback's four-yard touchdown run with 7:09 left in the second quarter pulled the Warriors within 14-7. White County then recovered an onside kick -- but the Wolves' defense stamped out the growing momentum, forcing a punt. Wilson added his second touchdown of the night six minutes later, scoring from 31 yards to reclaim control for Buford.
The Wolves, currently tied with North Hall for first place in 7-AAA, will look to maintain pace at the front of the region when they play host to Dawson County next Friday.
White County will look to bounce back in a trip to North Hall next Friday.
