ATLANTA – The Gainesville Area Employer Committee will host a seminar for employers on "hot-button" issues facing employees in the workplace Thursday, Oct. 18.
Entitled, "Hot Issues in the 21st Century Workplace," the seminar will be held from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at the Georgia Department of Labor’s Gainesville Career Center, located at 2756 Atlanta Highway in Gainesville.
The seminar will be conducted by Jennifer Sandberg and Terri Stewart, attorneys with Fisher & Phillips, LLP, a law firm in Atlanta.
Sandberg will kick-off the seminar with a presentation on the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and how that law impacts the workplace. The ADA is a wide-ranging law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability. The ADA defines disability as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.”
Stewart will follow-up with a presentation on how the social media can impact the workplace. The presentation will focus on why employers should understand the role of social media and incorporate it into their business practices, including recruiting employees.
The seminar is designed for business owners, human resource managers, supervisors, and entrepreneurs.
The c0ost of the seminar, which includes a continental breakfast, is $30 per person and $25 each for two or more from the same organization.
