Time for Mule Camp Mkt., Big Red Apple festivalsBy Ken Stanford Staff Two of the Gainesville area's longest-running fall festivals are on tap this weekend.
Gainesville's Mule Camp Market, sponsored by the Gainesville Jaycees, begins Friday downtown and will continue through Sunday: Friday: 10am until 7pm Saturday: 10am until 7pm *Day-time Entertainment: 11am - 6pm *Concert on Main Stage, Presented by Loco's: 630pm - 10:30pm (Featuring Twisted Whiskey, River Street and Mid-life Crisis) Sunday: 12pm until 5pm Mule Camp Market began in the mid-1960s as a farmer’s curb market near the downtown square, organized by James Mathis, Sr. of Home Federal Bank. This market evolved into the Corn Tassel Festival, which was a fall festival with local craft exhibitors. About 1993, the Gainesville Jaycees began running the festival and changed the name to Mule Camp Market.
