Death toll from meningitis outbreak now 12

The death toll from an outbreak of meningitis has now reached at least 12.

The outbreak has been linked to steroid shots for back pain. The medication, made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts, has been recalled.

Latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

Illnesses: 137

Deaths: 12

States: 10; Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.
