DAHLONEGA - A graduate of North Georgia College and State University has pledged $2.1 million to his Alma Mater.

Retired Army Colonel Jack Peevy of Alpharetta committed the amount to the university through his estate.

Vice President for Advancement Andy Leavitt said Peevy's generation has been generous with the school.

"He is graduating from a time period in the early 1950's where a lot of the graduates of that time period have given very generously to the university and to our capital campaign," Leavitt said.

The first $100,000 of Peevy's gift, made in August, helped set up the Colonel Jack Peevy Military Scholarship. University officials announced the entire gift Tuesday.

"This donation will be targeted to providing program support and scholarships for the Corps of Cadets," Leavitt said.

During a 30-year military career, Peevy commanded Airborne Infantry, Special Forces, and Military Intelligence units. He also served a combat tour in Vietnam, where he was severely wounded, according to the university.

"You don't realize how unique and significant (the university) is until years after you've left it," Peevy told the school.
