RABBITTOWN – Buford and Dawson County both advanced to the Class AAA state tournament after taking a pair of wins each Saturday at East Hall Park in the Region 7-AAA Tournament.
Buford opened with an 8-0 win over the host Lady Vikings and then whipped Fannin County 13-4 in the quarterfinals to advance. Dawson County opened with an 8-2 over West Hall and then held off Banks County 10-8 to advance.
The two teams, both ranked in the top four in Class AAA, will meet Monday at 6 p.m. at East Hall for a spot in the championship round. Dawson County beat Buford on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
In the other semifinal games, Fannin County will take on East Hall and banks County will play White County for the final two playoff spots. Both games will begin at 4 p.m. at East Hall on Monday.
In the other first action Saturday, Banks County beat North Hall and Fannin County beat White County.
In the loser’s bracket round, East Hall beat West Hall 9-4 and White County beat North Hall 7-6 to stay for a possible playoff spot. West Hall and North Hall were eliminated with their second losses of the day.
