ELBERTON – An Elberton man has been charged with entering a home in a burglary attempt that was interrupted by a homeowner and her infant child.
Elbert County Sheriff Barry Haston reports that Steven Delaney Childs, 23, of Elberton was arrested Wednesday for the Sept. 18 burglary on Calhoun Road in which the woman and child returned home to find a man inside their home placing items into a bag. The suspect, at that time unknown, fled through the yard and into a wooded area.
Responding deputies searched the woods and located several items dropped by the suspect. During the subsequent investigation, officers identified the man as Childs and obtained burglary warrants for his arrest.
Childs remains in the Elbert County Detention Center, where he also is being held on a parole hold.
