Braselton tax preparer jailed for stealing from clients

BRASELTON - A man from Braselton is charged with ripping off his customers' tax refunds.

Authorities said Richard Wilder ran a tax preparation business and promised big refunds, but they said he kept a lot of the money himself. There could be 30 victims.

Stephanie Haaff told CBS Atlanta that he ripped her off for more than $7,000.

"Every time I went to his office he was paying somebody out of his pocket, somebody up there saying he owed them money," said Haaff.

She said she received documents from the Internal Revenue Service that proved that Wilder cashed her check.

Wilder is being held in the Jackson County Jail.
