CLARKESSVILLE -Danny Glenn, a student in the Air Conditioning Technology diploma program at North Georgia Technical College (NGTC), is the school’s winner of the Grainger $2,500 Veteran’s Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship.

W.W. Grainger, Inc., a world-wide distributor of industrial and commercial equipment and supplies, recognizes outstanding students with a $2,000 scholarship and a customized Westward toolkit valued at $500 upon successful completion of the student’s technical education program. Glenn will complete his diploma in December and then will continue with the commercial refrigeration certificate in the Spring.

Glenn is a licensed electrician and single father who also runs a Karate studio.

“I started to get requests from my clients to work on their air conditioning units,” he explains. After some consideration, he decided to get the credentials required. “I knew the technical colleges had a great program,” he said. “I chose North Georgia Tech because of the instructors.”

Through a competitive selection process, students studying electronic systems, heating/air conditioning, plumbing, pneumatics, welding, automotive, construction, facilities maintenance or other industrial trade may apply for the scholarship.

“We had several very qualified applicants for this scholarship,” noted NGTC Director of Institutional Advancement Cynthia Brown. “Because of his commitment to continuing his education and community involvement, Danny stood out head and shoulders above the rest.”

NGTC President Dr. Gail Thaxton was on hand to present the award to Glenn. “We are so proud of you for knowing what skills you needed and for taking the time and initiative to make it happen,” she said to him. “Thank you for choosing our college.”

This is the second Grainger Veterans scholarship winner at NGTC. Beginning in Fall 2010, a limited number of scholarships were set aside by the Grainger Corporation specifically for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Glenn lives in Lula with his children.
