LAWRENCEVILLE - Changes to a commercial development at Coolray Field were rejected by Gwinnett County commissioners Tuesday night.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the board voted unanimously to reject a plan that would have replaced 165,000 square feet of commercial space and 150 hotel rooms at the Lawrenceville stadium with 276 residential units.
Critics of the changes have said substituting apartments for upscale shops and offices would lower surrounding property values and generate less tax revenue for the county.
Despite one property owner's argument that the original plans are unrealistic and unsellable, commissioners say the original plans for development at the stadium are worth waiting for, even if they are not economically viable at the moment.
