Hope rallies to win Senior City title

GAINESVILLE -- Walter Hope defended his Senior City Championship title Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
Walter Hope rallied on the final day to nip Jim Foote by a stroke to win the 2012 City Senior Championship. Hope fired a two day total of 4-under par 140 while Foote finished at 3-under par 141.
The tournament was close to the end. Foote had a putt of about 18 feet on the 36th hole to force a playoff with Hope that barely missed on the right side of the cup.
Foote held off Roger Stapp and Joe Roberts in a three-way playoff to win the Championship Flight.
More than 40 players in four different flights took part in the two-day tournament.
In the Gold Flight B Division, Don Gage wad the winner with a 159 total. Larry Smith (167) was second. In the net division Paul Payne had a net score of 135 and was the winner by a scorcard playoff over Larry Smith with a par on the 18th hole. Frederick Reed (139) took second.
The Gold Flight A Division, Lamar Lea had a two-day total of 148 to beat out Guy Sherohman (156) who took second. The net division winner was Jack Kenney at 134.
In the Championship B flight, Scott Holcomb fired a two-day total of 154 beat Tom Halstead by a slim three strokes. The net division winner was Bob Norton with a 137 and Bill Hardman took second with a 143.
