GAINESVILLE - Workers were tooling fresh concrete and running a Bobcat Friday afternoon in preparation for a new traffic signal at a notorious Gainesville intersection.

Convenience store company RaceTrac and the city of Gainesville are working together on the project at Highway 365 at Howard Road.

The company's store is on one side of the road, with the J. A. Walters Family YMCA across the highway.

The uncontrolled intersection has been the scene of numerous traffic accidents this year.

Earlier this summer, RaceTrac Marketing Programs Manager Terrica Oglesby said it would take about 30 days for the work.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will handle the inspection and testing of the signal once complete.
