GAINESVILLE - Gainesville State College’s (GSC) Roy C. Moore Art Gallery will host embrace: Paintings by Jennifer Hartley, September 26 – October 25.
embrace: Paintings by Jennifer Hartley features a series of colorful double portraits, depicting a broad range of relationships between two people: parent and child, brothers, sisters, lovers, friends.
When she began this series, Hartley was initially seeking “positive examples of love and affection.” She “chose the embrace as a symbol for fondness and adoration,” and combined snapshots of her friends and colleagues with found images of strangers.
Hartley graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 1985, and Master in Fine Arts in 2009. She has been a professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design since 2009.
Hartley’s artist’s talk on Tuesday, October 9, at 2:00, will be followed by a reception. This event is free and open to the public. Throughout the exhibit, the gallery will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00-4:00 and Thursdays from 10:00-7:00.
