KFCB recognizes outstanding volunteers

CUMMING - Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) recently recognized individuals, schools, groups and businesses for their contributions to the KFCB. The agency did so at its 2012 Recognition Banquet.

The banquet was an opportunity to “turn our attention to the positive things in our community by recognizing the dedicated volunteers, sponsors and partners that serve to keep our county clean and beautiful,” Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright said.

The following awards were presented during the event:

*Friend of KFCB Award: Piney Grove Middle School
*Government Partner of the Year: City of Cumming
*Service to the Community: Barbara and Buzz Shoemaker of Busy Buzzard
*Environmental Achievement Award: Chuck Ingraham and Habitat for Humanity
*Club of the Year: Chattahoochee Monarchs
*Phonebook Recycling Awards: Chattahoochee Elementary School, Johns Creek Elementary School, Lakeside Middle School and Chestatee Elementary School
*Recycling Coordinator of the Year: Lisa Lafayette of Lakeside Middle School via South Forsyth High School
*Educator of the Year: Bryan Biccum of Liberty Middle School
*Junior Leadership Award: Ron McCallister of Kelly Mill Elementary School
*Green School Awards (Gold Level): Cumming Elementary School, Chattahoochee Elementary School, Midway Elementary School, Vickery Creek Elementary School, Big Creek Elementary School, Shiloh Point Elementary School, Settles Bridge Elementary School, Liberty Middle School, Lakeside Middle School, South Forsyth Middle School and South Forsyth High School
*Green School Awards (Silver Level): Chestatee Elementary School
*Green School Awards (Bronze Level): Haw Creek Elementary School, Whitlow Elementary School, Sawnee Elementary School, Matt Elementary School, Mashburn Elementary School, Coal Mountain Elementary School and Vickery Creek Middle School
*School Garden of the Year: Cumming Elementary School
*School Trail of the Year: Vickery Creek Elementary School

KFCB works with government, businesses, schools, civic organizations and citizens to help improve beautification, litter reduction and recycling. Volunteers can take part in KFCB programs such as Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Stream and electronics recycling.
