GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Fire Services (HCFS) Muster team received several awards while competing at the Georgia Fire Chiefs Conference in Dalton.

The team finished third overall competing against teams from around the state.

Awards included 1st place in the Serpentine Barrel Roll; 2nd in the Bucket Brigade; and 5th in Hose and Ladder.

Team members are: Battalion Capt. Mark Arnold, Capt. Skip Heflin, Lt. Bob Culbertson, Lt. James Free, Firefighter T.J. Elliott and Firefighter Shane Martin.

Lt. Beverly Walker says a fire muster, or simply muster, competition is a series of fire service related events.

"While there is a deep root of musters in fire service history, I am not exactly sure how they got started," she said. "Many of the events might simulate early firefighting tactics, such as the bucket brigade, but not all."

Lt. Walker said Hall County will host a muster competition Nov. 3 at Lake Lanier Islands in conjunction with a Chili Cook-off that is being sponsored by the resort to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
