DEMOREST - Internationally acclaimed pianist Andreas Klein, whom the New York Times has called “a fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four T's of pianism,” will present a concert at Piedmont College next week.
For the Piedmont concert, Klein will perform works by Robert Schumann, Mili Balakirev, Claude Debussy, and Sergei Prokofieff. The performance is set for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at the college’s Center for Worship and Music located at 165 Central Avenue in Demorest. Admission at the door is $10 and $5 for seniors and students. Piedmont students, faculty and staff are admitted free.
Klein's career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world's most prestigious venues including London's Wigmore Hall, Berlin's Philharmonic Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In Europe as well as in the USA, Mexico and Middle East, he has gained critical acclaim for his performances in Berlin, Rome, Milan, Bern, Leipzig, Dresden, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Damascus, and Mexico City.
In 2009, he joined the Salzburg Chamber Soloists on tour with a searching rendition of Beethoven's “4th Piano Concerto” for strings version. “Klein's interpretative skills, his musicality and technical acumen allowed for a very musical reading that was complemented by the ensemble,” wrote the Salt Lake City Desert News.
Most recently, in 2011 he joined Cuarteto Casals, Spain's star string quartet. They performed in major U.S. cities and concert series including Chicago, Washington, D.C., and at the Casals Festival in Costa Rica, performing the Schumann Quintet. During the 2011/12 season, Klein brought the house down at New York City's hot spot, Le Poisson Rouge, with Schumann's “Wanderer Fantasy.”
Klein is a frequent guest on the radio at WGBH Boston, American Public Radio in St. Paul Studio, WFMT Chicago, Cleveland and Houston. He has been the subject of a televised "Musicians Portrait" in Berlin, filmed at the Neuhardenberg Castle; and "Intermezzo with Andreas Klein," a series of short piano works with visuals, was aired by PBS nationwide.
