GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville State College (GSC) School of Social Sciences is hosting Volunteer Fair 2012, where students will be encouraged to “serve, learn and volunteer.”

On Tuesday, September 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the GSC Martha T. Nesbitt Academic Building, students will have the opportunity to learn about attractive opportunities for volunteering, service learning and internships in the community.

“This Volunteer Fair is the only one of its kind in North Georgia which gives community agencies access to a sizable pool of volunteers. Our students unanimously report being enlightened and inspired by their involvement in this event,” said Dr. George Danns, event coordinator.

Representatives from over 50 organizations, including Georgia Mountain Food Bank, Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, The Arts Council, American Red Cross, Gateway Domestic Violence Shelter, CASA, Rape Response, The Humane Society, Keep Hall Beautiful, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, United Hospice, Disability Resource Center, Good News at Noon, Solicitor General Hall County, Hall County Sheriff Department, Salvation Army, YMCA, Center Point Mentor Program, National Alliance for Mental Illness, Challenged Child and Friends, Boys and Girls Club, Meals on Wheels, and the Children Center for Hope and Healing, have been invited and are expected to participate.

For more information about the Volunteer Fair, contact event coordinator Dr. George Danns, Professor of Sociology at gdanns@gsc.edu or 678.717.3461.
