COMMERCE -- Commerce overcame an early deficit to roll up 372 rushing yards in a 28-13 defeat of cross-town foe East Jackson on Friday night in Commerce.
The Eagles (0-2) pulled ahead 7-0 in the first quarter on Casey Reed's 12-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Austin Beauchamp, but the Tigers (2-0) fired right back, knotting the score on Quay Little's 33-yard run.
The two opponents traded scores after that, entering halftime tied 14-14. From there it was all Commerce, as quarterback Drew Whitfield rushed for two unanswered touchdowns -- nine yards in the third and fourth quarters.
Jamal Browner led the Tigers' rushing attack with 98 yards on 20 carries, while Whitfield added 97 yards on 14 carries. Terrick Ramsey also had a 65-yard touchdown run.
The Commerce defense held East Jackson to just 22 yards in the second half, as the Eagles finished with 130 total yards.
The Tigers will look to move to 3-0 next week against Banks County at home.
East Jackson will travel to face East Hall next week.
