DAWSONVILLE - The Pool Room in Dawsonville is back open for business.
According to the eatery's facebook page, the restaurant opened Sunday for lunch and dinner after being shut down by the Georgia Department of Revenue in May for more than $84,000 in unpaid taxes, fees and penalties.
An attorney for the Pool Room, Joey Homans, said in June that the owner had worked out an agreement with state officials that lifted the tax lien against it.
"He's paying the full amount of the tax but, as is customary in these situations, there were negotiations regarding what amount if any of the penalty and interest will be paid," he said.
Homans said that amount will be paid out over the course of five years.
The closure of the restaurant, which is described as "ground zero" for auto racing in North Georgia, prompted an outpouring of community support. Accounts were set up at area banks to accept donations to help reopen the Pool Room, and a Facebook group geared toward reopening the business was also created.
"It's Gordon... and if Gordon needs some help then we'll stand right with him to bring him through," said Homans.
