HOMER – Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman is seeking the public’s help in locating two men who assaulted and robbed a man and woman at a house in southeastern Banks County Sunday night.

Chapman said the incident happened at 170 Leachman Road, where the man and woman lived.

“They had been off and were coming in home, and as they walked to the house and went up on the porch, as they got on the porch they were attacked by a white male and a black male, according to the victims,” Chapman said. “We don’t know exactly what they were using, but [the victims] said they were using either a stick or a pipe.”

Chapman said the man, 65, and woman, 42, were hurt in the attack. Both were taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

“I haven’t heard of their condition since they were transported,” Chapman said. “He had more lacerations and injuries than she did, or it appeared that way.”

“I think the lady might have suffered a broken jaw possibly,” Chapman said. “She was transported to the hospital along with the man. He had some lacerations to his head and some other bruising on his body where they struck him. I think he said he picked up a hammer and maybe hit one of them, but they reached into his pocket and retrieved his wallet, which contained some money – according to him, it was apparently a sizeable amount of money – and ran.”

Chapman said officers don’t know where the suspects went when they left the victims’ house, but are hoping those in the area can help them locate the suspects’ vehicle.

He said numerous officers and troopers from the Georgia State Patrol were in the vicinity quickly after the incident, but were unable to locate the suspects.

“There had been, according to others in the neighborhood, a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck with black wheels that was occupied by a white male and a black male,” Chapman said. “Or at least they said it had been seen on Leachman Road several times prior to this man and woman being attacked. That’s about all the information we have right now ….”

Chapman asks anyone with information about the attack, the suspects, or the truck to call the Banks County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 677-2248, asking to speak to the Criminal Investigations Division.
