DAHLONEGA - An entire North Georgia family that was injured when their minivan was hit head-on by a pick-up truck on Highway 115 last month is receiving help from the community as they struggle to pay an insurmountable stack of medical bills.

The Wimpy Family Benefit Singing will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the Dahlonega Park and Recreation gymnasium... with all proceeds going toward the family's medical costs.

"Silver City, a local band called Jaiden Call, and some other individuals will also be singing. There will also be a lot of items donated by local businesses for auction. There will be food there," said Doug Berliner, the step-father of Aften Wimpy, who, along with her husband and three children, was injured in the crash.

Berliner said Aften and her husband Jon continue to care for their 6-year-old daughter Lily, 1-year-old son Aiden and infant son Nikolas, who remains in ICU at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.

"Jon may have to actually quit his job at Wal-Mart and be the main caregiver, and basically his job will be caring for that baby for a year," he said.

More information about the benefit and the Wimpy family can be found at www.helpthewimpyfamily.com.
