Cooley officially kicking off campaign FridayBy Ken Stanford Staff GAINESVILLE - After sitting on the sidelines for the most part while Republicans in the new 9th Congressional District settled on a nominee for the district seat, Democrat Jody Cooley is ready for the next phase of his campaign.
Cooley, who is from Gainesville and spent the past several weeks making the rounds at meet-and-greet sessions across the district, plans to officially kick off his quest for a seat in Congress Friday in Gainesville. Cooley, who faced no opposition in this summer's Democratic Primary, will square off against the GOP nominee, Doug Collins of Gainesville, in the November General Election. Collins captured the Republican nomination in Tuesday's runoff with Martha Zoller. The kick-off rally will be held at Longwood Park from 5:00-7:00.
