Gainesville woman among Red Cross volunteers recently recognized
ATHENS - The American Red Cross recently recognized its Blood Services volunteers.
They included Gail Lucy of Gainesville, the American Red Cross Blood Services Gainesville “Live the Mission” Award Winner for 2012. Lucy volunteers regularly at the Gainesville Donor Center.
Also recognized were John Nuber of Cumming (Forsyth County Volunteer of the Year) and Jackie Oliver of Rabun Gap (Rabun County Volunteer of the Year). Nuber and Oliver have been volunteering with Red Cross Blood Services for 16 and nine years, respectively.
When asked why he volunteers, Nuber said “I do this as an act of Americanism and as a veteran of the Korean War era and as a member of American Legion Post 307 of Cumming. I feel it is my duty to give back to help in some way to those that need help.” When asked why he chose to volunteer for blood services, he says “Giving blood is such an easy way to help those in need. It makes one feel good knowing how much an hour of one’s time is so valuable.”
Oliver says she volunteer with the Red Cross because “I’m a retired x-ray technologist, and I enjoy volunteering in the medical field.”
American Red Cross Blood Services is always looking for community volunteers of all backgrounds. If you are interested, contact Volunteer Coordinator Kathy Dalton at 706-546-0681 x221 or Kathy.Dalton@redcross.org.
