Crews are painting the Olympic Tower at Gainesville's rowing venue off Clarks Bridge Road this week.
GAINESVILLE - Sixteen years after the 1996 Olympic Games, the Olympic Tower on Lake Lanier is getting a facelift.

Officials with the City of Gainesville said they, along with Hall County officials, have hired Fresh Color Designs to pressure wash and paint the structure at the rowing venue off Clarks Bridge Road.

They said the project will include roughly 45 gallons of paint and will take approximately 40 hours to complete.

The Tower, constructed for the 1996 Olympic Rowing/Canoe Kayak events, is seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and is used regularly by Lanier Canoe Kayak Club and Lake Lanier Rowing Club.

Officials said the new paint job should be completed this week, weather permitting.
