SUWANEE - A board overseeing several libraries in North Georgia has voted against an idea to raise money by placing advertising on bookmarks.

The idea was rejected this week by the Gwinnett County Library Board.

The original proposal called for businesses to pay $300 to have their advertisement or coupon printed on about 5,000 bookmarks, which would then be distributed around the communities.

Board Member Dick Goodman said the plan has been a diversion from more important issues the board needs to address.

Goodman also said he thought spending money on the bookmarks would bring a very poor return on the investment.

The plan has been discussed as the library system struggles with a reduced budget.
