DAHLONEGA -- The Lumpkin County softball team opened its 2012 campaign with a 9-1 win over Gilmer in five innings on Monday in Dahlonega.
The Lady Indians (1-0) got a two-hit performance from pitcher Ashley Brown -- who also led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2.
Taylor Turk also smacked a solo home run for Lumpkin County, which broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning.
The Lady Indians travel to Madison County on Wednesday.
