Representatives from United Way of Hall County, Publix and the Gainesville City and Hall County school systems joined a group of third grade students at Gainesville Elementary Monday for a presentation of school supplies from United Way's School Tools for Cool Kids drive.
GAINESVILLE - School supplies donated to the United Way of Hall County's School Tools for Cool Kids drive was ceremoniously presented to students at Gainesville Elementary Monday morning.
Publix District Manager Paul Daniels was at the presentation and said he was honored to have his stores serve as a collection point for the school supplies.
"That, in turn, helps some kid that might be less fortunate, that might not be able to afford that, so it's just a perfect tie-in for Publix as well as the school systems," said Daniels.
He said he's also been humbled to see the support for the drive from the community.
"One of the customers came in and asked what the bags were for," Daniels said. "It's awesome to see someone that was obviously beyond the age of having young kids but was still willing to give."
In addition to Publix employees, United Way representatives and Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield and Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Merrianne Dyer were also on hand for the presentation.
At the end of the presentation, a group of Gainesville Elementary third grade students gave thank you letters to the Publix and United Way representatives.
The school supply drive kicked off July 16.
